topic idea for homework?

MeOw F asked:

Hi everybody and thank you for your help, I do not want you to do my homework, I just want you to give me an IDEA OF A TOPIC, not do my homework! =] thank you

Scenario

While attending this class, you also work at DigiFast, a small company that creates and markets video games for educational and entertainment markets. DigiFast recently moved into River View Plaza, a four-story office building in Portland, Oregon.

River View Plaza includes a lobby with a security desk and several suites on all four floors. DigiFast occupies a typical suite that includes offices for managers, full-sized cubicles for employee workstations, a conference room, and restrooms. There is a break room with a refrigerator and a microwave, but, unfortunately, the break room is on the first floor, and DigiFast is on the third floor.

DigiFast is new and growing fast. The company needs more employees, but the operating budget will not allow for it presently. Meanwhile, the goal is to make the operations efficient while keeping the current employees happy. You think one way to achieve this goal is by attracting outside services to the building.

The other businesses in the building are similar in size to DigiFast but focus on markets other than software: a dentist, a young lawyer, and an insurance company. The building also has several spaces not yet rented. At capacity, the building can accommodate approximately 1,300 people.

The location of River View Plaza is ideal, and the size of the office is adequate. However, the owners of the building supply space but little else in the way of service. The entrepreneurial spirit in you views this as a golden opportunity to attract a new service for DigiFast and other companies in the building.

Your task is to convince your colleagues, manager, the owner of DigiFast, and the building management company your service has great potential and would be useful for your company’s employees and others in the building. A committee of key individuals will make the decision to move forward . . . or not. The committee consists of the following:

Charlotte Alexander, the founder and owner of DigiFast. She has a master’s degree in computer engineering and has spent 20 years working in IT industries. Charlotte is interested in efficiency and company growth.

Mark Jackson, your manager: Mark was recently recruited from a major video marketing company. He has an MBA from a prestigious university and two years’ work experience. Mark cares about the bottom line—he favors creativity as long as profit does not suffer.

Stacie Matthews, computer programmer: Stacie is currently working on her undergraduate degree in computer programming. She has extensive experience in developing video games but wants to finish her education to advance in this industry. Stacie is practical and creative.

Dave Martinez, graphic designer: Dave is a self-taught graphic artist who has won numerous awards for his designs. He is imaginative and innovative.

Steve Taylor, facilities manager: Steve is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day maintenance of the building, as well as renting available space to companies compatible with the businesses in the building. Although he is friendly and easygoing, Steve expects a job to be done right.

Task

Your task is to choose a service you think would be useful for DigiFast and most employees in the building. Remember: The goal of the service is to increase efficiency of operations and/or keep the current employees happy. As you think about the argument you will ultimately present to the committee, consider the different needs and personalities of the five committee members you have to persuade. All of the committee members have to agree on your service. You also need to anticipate any objections they might have as well as ways you can overcome those objections.

Nancy asked:

Until recently, ComPro Electronics produced personal computers on an assembly line with each worker performing only one simple task. However, about a year ago the company began allowing individual workers to assemble entire computers, test all of the components, and even install the software that ComPro includes with each of its computers. ComPro’s new production method is an example of

Is this a good personal statement for a Masters?

budge_mook asked:

Hey,

I am applying for a software project management masters and This is my personal statement. It’s 600 words so thanks to anyone who takes the time to read it and comment.

Dear Sir / Madam,

My name is Joe Bloggs, I am a Bsc. Commercial Software Development graduate currently residing in Dublin and working for an exciting social network aggregating software company. I wish to continue my studies to Masters level to further my career to becoming a project manager for my company. The company is rapidly expanding and I would like to have the tools needed to be an integral part of the companies future success.

Distance learning is an obvious choice for me to complete a Masters. I would like to continue to be based in Dublin improving my work experience and applying what I am learning to my work as i learn it. In my studying I am completley self motivated, target driven and do not need to be in a taught environment. I often learn about new technologies and methodologies through reading online journals and blogs and whenever possible, apply what I learn to my work. I find the best way for me to learn is through visual displays – I generally think in pictures. I find flow charts, presentations and diagrams etc. the best way for me to learn. When I don’t fully understand a topic I am not afraid to ask questions and research on the internet as well as academic libraries.

I currently work as a lead QA engineer on a well known product delivered to a large German based European telco. This work, which I have been performing for 18 months now, has exposed me to many areas of project management and work. I have constant deadlines and milestones which need to be met and am required to assess risks almost on a daily basis. I have been involved in each phase of the project from right at the beginning and partake in tasks such as requirements gathering and analysis. Because I work for an agile software company, I constantly have to deal with changing requirements and often liase with the customer regarding these and provide estimations of man days required and effort. I have been completely geared towards learning to change plans to suit changing needs. After this, The plan is executed and I am the person in charge of ensuring continuous QA and finally signing off on the product for delivery.

I am very interested in project management, I have recently joined the PMI Ireland chapter and attended a HRM evening in the University of Limerick in Ireland which I found to be very interesting and made it clear to me that I would like to work in the project management field. My lifelong interest in software / computing led to me choosing this course which I hopefully will be accepted to study. A particular interest of mine is the agile software development methodology and I would like to see how the agile philosophies can be applied to project management as in the past I know that usual management frameworks and the agile methodology have not worked especially well together.

The Software Project Management course in Aberdeen University seems to be perfect for me. It is geared toward project management in the software sector. It will not require me to leave my job in a company that I am committed to and it is flexible enough for working professionals like myself to undertake without changing my lifestyle too much such as moving to another city. I have not found anything that I think looks this intertesting locally.

Please find attached with this application my professional references and supporting documents. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.

Kind Regards,

P.S Please disregard any spelling mistakes, the final draft will be checked for this

need help in Object Oriented Programming?

smartboy . asked:

Objectives
The objectives of this assignment are,
oGiving the idea of practical implementation of basic object oriented concepts like abstraction, encapsulation, inheritance, generalization, specialization, sub-typing and association.

Introduction:
In this course we are going to develop software for “School System” that will computerize all the necessary school processes. This software will facilitate the school management in running and managing the school. We will mainly focus on these aspects,

1.Teacher and Student Record Keeping
2.Student Grading
3.School Library Management

The explanations of these three parts are given below,

1.Teacher and Student Record Keeping
Our software will store record of students and teachers in the school.

a.We will store necessary attributes for students such as,
(name, age, parents name, address, class, roll no …..)
Student class may have extra attributes like borrowed book name or id and student grades as well.
b.We will store necessary attributes for teachers such as,
(name, age, NIC No, address, education, experience, teaching subjects…..)

2.Student Grading
We will store grades of each student for all subjects.
3.School Library Management System

This part will keep track of all books present in the library as well as it will keep record of borrowing and returning of books by students.

Task Description:

This Assignment is starting phase of this system in this assignment you will focus on the tasks given below:

1.You have to identify the main entities (objects) for this system.
2.You will have to find out the necessary attributes and functions that need to be associated with each object to implement the functionality mentioned above. (There will be setter and getter functions corresponding to each attribute and other necessary functions for example there may be a function borrow book in student class that may store name or id of the borrowed book by the student similarly it can have functions to store and show grades of the student).
3.You have to find out the relationships between these objects, for example teacher and student common attributes can be combined in a single base class.
4.You will make a final comprehensive object model showing all objects and their relations along with their attributes and functions.

You have to perform all these four steps give above in your solution file.

Note:
a.Use all concepts you have studied so far like abstraction, encapsulation, inheritance, generalization, specialization, sub-typing and association to students.
b.You need not to worry about data types of attributes at this moment these will be considered in next assignments.

Drawing Final Object Model:

a.You can use any tool for drawing like MS Office or Visio.
b.Or you can use open source tool Argo UML (in that case you have to install java run time environment as well links to download and install both are given on the page)

http://argouml.tigris.org/
You can install Java Runtime Environment directly from,
http://www.java.com/en/download/inc/windows_upgrade_ie.jsp

Important things to consider:

1.As happens in real world that everyone visualize a problem in different way so the solutions of all students should be according to their own thinking not taken from some source.
2.As this is preliminary phase of our system so it is recommended that you identify as much objects and their relationships as you can (some of them may be eliminated in coming assignments).

Example:

A snapshot of final object model from the solution of previous semester first assignment is shown below, (you need not to worry about data types at this moment)

Example Object Model for Learning Management System

Can I have my Gateway PC replaced for free?

Jonathan asked:

2 months ago, I bought the Gateway® DX4200-09 PC from Best Buy. It used to work perfectly, but now I have errors with the drivers and OS. On 2/13/09, I used the Gateway Recovery Management program. I clicked Reset to Factory Default. The PC restarted, it started the operation. Then an error message occurred and I could not finish the task. I think that my PC is defective because the drivers and OS doesn’t work correctly.

Now everytime I turn on my PC, it gives me this error message:

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the problem. To fix the problem:

1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer..
2. Choose your language settings and then click “Next”
3.Click “Repair your computer”

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

File:\Boot\BCD
Status:0xc000000f
Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.

I brought the PC to Best Buy and I wanted an exchange, but the guy says that I can’t have it replaced because I have a software error. He said I could have it diagnosed and repaired for $199, but I refused.

I went home and booted from my Windows Vista Home Premium disc. I clicked ‘repair your computer’ but it tells me that no Windows installation was found. Then I clicked on ‘Load Drivers’ button. I clicked on ‘Computer’ tab on the left side. And there are 2 hard drives instead on 1. I right-clicked the first one labeled ‘C:’ selected ‘Properties’ and it shows that there is 0B used space and 0B free space. Next I viewed the Properties of the second hard drive ‘E:’ it also had 0B used space and 0B free space. I know that C: was where Vista used to be installed. Then I tried to re-install Vista. While it’s doing the ‘Expanding Files’ operation, it gives me an error message and I can’t complete the installation.

Now everytime I turn it on, it gives me this error message:

BOOTMGR is missing
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

I press Ctrl+Alt+Del and I get the same message over and over again.

I don’t have any recovery discs. But I read the warranty paper that came with the PC. I don’t even know what a warranty is.It says that Gateway promises that their PCs are free from defects or they will replace it. All of this was caused because of the Gateway Recovery Management, so I can have it replaced because it was caused by Gateway’s program, right?

How Can I Survive Annoying Boss?

Kanji asked:

I just started this job a couple weeks ago, it is with a very prestigious and well known employer, and I am in a supervisory position. My whole family knows about it and revels in the fact I have this job. I am glad I finally have a job after nearly 5 months of looking. BUT- my direct boss seems to have unrealistic expectations about the time it should take to complete certain tasks.

Being a supervisor, at any given time, I am dealing with no less than 5 different things. Since I have been there, each day at least 2 of these things are hot items that must be done by the end of the day. I have meetings, I have to process employee paperwork, I have to keep track of projects and report on them. And I am not allowed to pull any overtime to meet the incredible demand. My boss gets irritated when she emails me something (along with the 50 or so other emails I get a day) and it takes me a day to get on the actual assgnment- it takes me that long because… I am FREAKING NEW(!!!!!!), and I am trying to learn how this company does things, policies and procedures, delegating of tasks and tracking and actually learning to use the programs used. Upper management has even developed a “formula” to determine how long it should take to finish something, but it does not factor in delays, what happens if you run into problems with the software, or if someone (even the boss) comes in the door with something else that is hot. I feel I cannot meet her expectations about getting X done on time unless I completely drop what I am doing and ignore everything else I have to do that day. But if I did that, I would be in trouble as well so how can I win?

They don’t seem to realize that we are working as hard and as fast as we can to keep up and make sure everything is done right. I know my boss is ony on me cause she wants to look good to her bosses, but while she’s sitting in her office sending emails, I and my workers are down in the trenches, working miracles (if you are behind how can you catch up if you can’t work extra hours to do so?) How do I relax and let it roll off my back because I will have to continue to work for the forseeable future and it does not look good to quit after only 2 weeks.

How to visually manage a list of tasks and subtasks?

thelastquark asked:

Hello !

I’m managing a lot of IT stuff on my daily work; we have projects about software development, network management, general user support and internal organization stuff.

I normally use Excel files to have a bird’s eye view for the general situation and sub-tasks, but the problem is that I find it not being practical enough: too much sheets, difficult to find information on them.

I don’t want this list to be detailed: only something like a Tree view that could expand itself, easy to maintain like this:

Soft development
Finish module payrolls
fix part a
add part b
continue applicant’s module
take a look at new BI system
It
buy new servers
server a features study

Is there a software for doing this ? how do you manage this ?

i.e., I find microsoft project too big for this.

Thanks !!
